The Valley of the Sun (Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, and other towns in our area) has a vibrant community of people who love Argentine Tango. This is the social tango that is danced to the Golden Age orchestras of the 1930’s-1950’s in the milongas of Buenos Aires. The music is simple and complex all at the same time.
We want to welcome all who are interested in this connected, fascinating and enjoyable (sometimes too much as all we want to do is dance!) world of Argentine Tango.
There are several different styles of tango. It is an ongoing (& sometimes spirited) discussion on what “is” the “real” tango- social salon, stage or ‘fantasia’, close embrace(milonguero) style, etc. More to come on this topic!
This is a new community tango site so information is being added daily. Until we have the calendar of our dreams- there are several options to find information on tango events in the Phoenix area. I will try to keep the Tango Phoenix calendar updated with my teaching and events I know about. Currently I teach 7:30 all levels class at Mijana Restaurant in Tempe before the Nostalgias Milonga. Tuesday classes happen weekly at SNAP (Scottsdale Neighborhood Arts on Granite Reef Rd) 7:30. 8:30 practica. We rotate instructors for this ongoing Tuesday class. Tangomango.org is a nationwide tango calendar. There is a local TangoArizona.com calendar that also provides links to Tucson & northern Arizona tango events but verify times locations etc.
